Just wondering - how many of you lovely lot go to local gigs? Y'know, 500 people or less (often a LOT less!), fairly small bands etc. I know they can be hit and miss, and you kinda have to find out where the good venues are and who's worth listening to etc.
But I've gotta say, some of the best musicians I've witnessed, best atmospheres I've experienced, best times I've had have been paying £6 to jump around like an idiot with 150 enthusiastic fellow revelers.

Apr 16, 2024 21:33 500 people at local gigs? If that's London, sure (the Camden Underworld has a capacity of 500 and has pretty big bands). Most local gigs I go to are nearer to 50 people. |

Apr 16, 2024 21:39 Agree though, local gigs can be great. Seen some awesome bands locally and had lots of fun. It's nice not having to wait half an hour to get a pint or swim through a sea of urine to get to the loo. |

Apr 16, 2024 21:47 I put a gig on there back in 2015 and had around 100 people show up (with half of that crew and guestlist). Lost a s**tload of money. Seen many bands there over the years though. A great venue. |

Apr 16, 2024 22:54 I like seeing popular bands at smaller venues, lots more atmosphere in pokey little theatres, like seeing Doro in a tiny club but she was treating it like it was a stadium and giving it everything |

Went to see Haunt the Sleep Sunday night. First local metal show I been to in years. Seriously good metal. |

Apr 17, 2024 14:22 I like small venues but I don’t go there to see local bands. One of my favorite places has a max capacity of 250. Put a few good metal bands on the tiny stage and the thing is a death trap. |

Apr 19, 2024 11:13 I dunno, the Gryphon in Bristol is pretty tiny. The performance area is triangular and the drummer is wedged into the point - basically has to disassemble/reassemble the kit to get in/out! |
