As a Virginia resident i can confirm it's actually a great location for the zombie apocalypse because you got lots of different environments to use to your advantage such as Rivers, Woods, Mountains, Swamps, and so on

In terms of a plan the first place you wanna head to is a hardware store because not only is there plenty of Axes, Sledgehammers, Machetes, And Battery Powered Nail Guns that you can fight the zombies with, There's also portable fuel powered generators you can use to power important things like fridges and space heaters and walkie talkie charging docks. In terms of shelter you wanna look out for specifically brick houses or a house that's on top of a hill.

For that your gonna need a fuel powered generator and a disk version of the game

Look for Rick Grimes or become the Governor myself. I should probably find myself a Maggie as well. I believe it’ll be a lot easier getting a girlfriend in an apocalypse. I’d definitely be stocking up on coffee and monster energy drinks 👌🏻

If the apocalypse is anything like World War Z or 28 Days than I might as well just off myself 😅

No don't look for Rick Grimes if you ever took the time to watch the show you'll learn that Rick just puts the whole group in danger time and time again. Not only that when rick recommends sheltering in a place that's dangerous the group will recommend a safer alternative and rick will just be like no I'm the leader and i say we go to the dangerous places instead. Maggie Green And Shayne Walsh are the people you wanna look for

I think the walking dead showed well enough that the walkers were more like wild animals, and the real threat were other "survivors" willing to survive at the cost of others.

Well... my friend owns multiple dumptrucks which would plow through cars that are gridlocked on the freeways. He has his own diesel fuel on site so they'd be full. These are essentially tanks at this point. I'm strapped already, he's not super into guns but ik he owns some. He wouldn't use it against a live person, but I'm trying to convince him that if someone is trying to kill us, we need to kill them first. I'd have no problem if it were self defense. Between him and I we have numerous properties to go to and his brother is a prepper and has straight up booby traps on his property, so he clearly thinks about this s**t as much as I do. I'm just happy I have a way of defending myself again because this city will turn into a warzone day one, people are savages here already so when the big one hits, it's gonna get real bad, real quick. I feel like I have a fighting chance now. Idk if I'm ever gonna get a rifle because in the event that I have to walk out of the city it makes me a target to be open carrying. If I can find something that fits into my big hiking bag, than maybe. A person needs to think about weight too, I'm already about at max capacity so, my next few choices have to be wise.

Posting this part separately because it might save all yalls lives.

GET A LIFESTRAW OR TWO SO YOU CAN DRINK WATER OUT OF PUDDLES AND s**t. MOST PEOPLE WILL DIE THE FIRST WEEK DUE TO DEHYDRATION. I'D HIDE ONE ON YOUR BODY, LIKE UPPER THIGH, SO IF YOU GET ROBBED, HOPEFULLY THEY DON'T GET YOUR SOURCE OF WATER.

Funny-- I actually stay on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. I have a small (around 7 acre) farm and pretty much everything I would need nutrition-wise if the world goes to s**t. A grain(Parish brown rice), a pulse(cowpeas and/or peas), and collards give me everything I need except for B-12 and maybe essential fatty acids. I think flax smells and tastes like azz... if hemp was legal I'd jump on that in a heartbeat. Maybe perilla seeds would work in the meantime.

Just need to send off some shiitake mycelium grown on dead weeds and see if it contains significant amounts of B-12. If it does then I don't need animals... just freeze-dry the mycelium, pack it into jars and eat about a gram of it a day.

If I need to raise animals(because I couldn't produce vegan B-12) it would be rabbits-- as they are extremely efficient on just forage and their meat is extremely high in B-12.

@voxx you sound pretty knowledgeable and set up. You should just say "f**k it" and get the hemp seeds. Once the s**t hits the fan no one's gonna care about the law.

Voxx, purslane which is normally considered a weed so it grows easily has lots of essential fatty acids and tastes great in a stir fry or even by itself. But yeah the B12 is an issue you need animals for.

Idk if this would work Voxx, but if there's a way you could grow Avocados in like a greenhouse or something, those are packed with B-12. The only place I know where they grow for sure is Hawaii, but there's gotta be some southern states they grow in.

Dr. Sus

Mar 9, 2026 18:26

Yes, you can grow avocados in Virginia, but they require specific care to survive the winter. The most successful approach is growing cold-hardy varieties (e.g., Mexicola, Joey) in large pots that are moved indoors, or in the ground with significant protection like frost blankets, Christmas lights, and a south-facing wall.

It would be a biznatch without electricity, however.... if you got started on them now you may be able to get them large enough to survive in a greenhouse?

It might just be easier to store some hemp seeds though.

Voxx

Mar 10, 2026 02:47

Not sure about avocados containing B-12... AFAIK only animal based foods, nori/purple laver seaweed, chlorella algae, and shiitake mushrooms contain significant amounts of it.

Mar 11, 2026 22:18

Oh, what about stocking a pond? Or if you're near the shore, is there any food fishing? How about growing shiitake mushrooms?

@Voxx had me researching B-12, did you know that it has a cobalt ion at the center of the complex?
