I like the ringed sabre from kenshi, also crude blades as well like the uruk-hai clever type that are crude. Also love how Conan the Cimmerian's sword looks on this cover of Red nails

So yeah I like crude cleaver type swords and if I was a tribal cannibal I'll be named "Big Chop" since I'll use a crude cleaver weapon.

Katana machetes are the best. Good self defense and good for chopping wood.

Swords are overrated. But as far as swords go, katanas are overrated. So a katana is overrated squared.

I have a verified real goro nyudo over 800 years ofd from kamakura period brought back after ww2 to usa
By my family
it was originally a tachi and cut down
the cut down turned it into a katana
Hamon like storm waves

Signed and matched other signed certified masamune swords by the nhbtk authority
I wouldn’t sell it for any amount of money so don’t bother asking me
people love to throw around the word masamune because lame animes stole his name

but they have never seen a real sword of his or even know who he really was

I also have a parade wakizashi from the imperial ceremony from 6 months before Pearl Harbor

The wakizashi sword was a limited machine made run made as a commemorative for celebrating 2600 years of Japanese imperial rule and the second sino Japanese war the entire Japanese fleet and army and air power was present for the 2600th ceremony

FYI fletcher there is no such thing as a ninjato sword
The only people who used straight swords in medival Japan were pirates

Samurai at night ware fare are ninja
They never used the American invention called a “ninja sword”
real ninja of the mori clan used wakizashi and tanto and katana
not straight “ninja” swords invented by Chinese manufacturers and cosplayers

I know this thread is about swords but I've always preferred spears. Just a simple qiang or yari spear.

Cloud is right. And the curvature wasn't intentional, just a fact of the matter of how they made their weapons, which in itself was with metallurgy and forging technology Europe has known about since Rome. Like that nonsense of folding the blade to thousands of layers doesn't actually make it stronger, it's just to balance out the impurities of otherwise s**t quality steel, impurities not present in their European counterparts around the same time. Even s**t steel by today's standards is superior to anything they ever had available.

And for the record, my degree is in mechanical engineering. So metallurgy and design is something I focus on. And that being said, the pinnacle of swords is probably going to be around the mid 1800's. Things like sabers, cutlass, some late era basket hilts. Not just in them being metallurgically superior, but also, that's where you get really good hand protection which lets people use really good techniques others couldn't do, like hanging guards where you can protect your entire upper body without any risk of losing fingers.

I'm more of an axe or hatchet person, as they double as a weapon and survival tool.

Eoten

Mar 9, 2026 16:53

Heck yeah, Dane axe is s*xy AF. But, those kind of axes don't really do that well as a survival tool, the blade geometry is all wrong.

Pointy ones...?

IAMEYK

Mar 10, 2026 00:49

In a survival situation you're obviously supposed to hold the axe by the pointy end
