what is the best energy storage system for electric cars?

what is the best energy storage system for electric cars?

by best i mean both energy dense & efficient, although other factors like weight, complexity, safety, lifespan, & ease/speed of refueling/recharging matter too.

as i see it the are only 2 options, batteries & hydrogen fuel cell.

i think both options have merit, both should be used.
that being said i think HFC is better.

Methane for larger vehicles, electric for smaller far as I have researched so far.

how are they cracking the methane to get the hydrogen out? or do you mean burning it? in which case it quits being electric, & is subject to low efficiencies 25%-30%. any heat engine has its max efficiency capped at 50% ---> carnot's theorem.

methane(CH4) is actually pretty hydrogen dense, more so than ammonia(NH3) would be the better choice for hydrogen storage, if it did not require high temps(1000Β°C) crack into hydrogen. also methane is not liquid under it's own vapor pressure, has to be cooled to turn into the more dense liquid state.

methane is better for hydrogen production(pyrolysis) in a factory setting.

Ethanol at least m8 trust me. It works in most unleaded cars with no mods.

Ethanol is sustainable, renewable, and more efficient, so FASTER, than normal petroleum. It has no unburnt hydrocarbons in the emissions and it's what the model T ford's that found oil in the middle east were fueled by. It's what drag racers use.

The battery system cars have such a massive carbon footprint in production and very expensive recycling and eco toxic problems from the cobalt in the batteries etc you would be better to get a practically sized small unleaded, like a young Hinda Civic for instance, I drive a 2008 1.8 V6 astra SXI, that is good for 150mph, and I can get round tge Ultra Low Emission Zone laws because it is very clean. It's a modern unleaded.

A modern common rail high pressure diesel engine is pretty good too.

I am a mechanic and,I assure you EVs ate being treated as a dangerous new entity, in ten years time I believe the problems will be worse. technicians have died and it will happen again. No one cares. So take care of yourself, I would say.

I still have my original GM battery in my Vauxhall. Those are the BEST batteries ever. The same as what a HUMVEE has 2 of under the passenger seat.

but we are still stuck burning the ethanol.
can we please stop burning s**t????

f**k ICE
by that i mean both internal combustion engines, and immigration & customs enforcement.

i agree with all the issues with batteries.
that is why i think hydrogen fuel cell tech is better.

def should be recycling all batteries, closed loop resource system.
think we can do better with battery recycling.
shred them whole in an inert liquid so they don't catch fire, then recover the black mass to separate later using chemistry i am still learning about.

also i meant to add there are many different types of hydrogen fuel cell.

Some directly take ammonia, methanol, ethanol & other hydrogen rich molecules without having to crack them into hydrogen beforehand.
i dunno how they work tho, needs more research.

i refuse to be stuck with internal combustion engines as the final solution.
electric motors already have them hopelessly beat in both the efficiency & acceleration departments.
just need a better "green" energy storage system.

Hydrogen us a TINY atom. It is actually more difficult to store than air.

I like you Fletcher. You seem cool.

I like ICE for propulsion but bio fuels. Burning s**t us half of why.

I hate working on EVs of EVERY kind. I wear a big air tight rubber suit like an astronaut in a taped off bay, and just hope I don't have an alien burst out of my chest, or even worse , BE ELECTROCUTED BY 50,

The technology, f or the hydrogen fuel cell, is not a finished product.

They are a bit unreliable. What size if vehicle are you thinking of though?

The Nissan Quashquai has some VERY modern, efficient ICE options 1.6L/1.7 8L (petrol) or 1.8 CI (Diesel) if you are an environmentallyc8nscious man, who needs a big truck, the Quasquai is a strong contender, they gave EVa now as well. My brother has a 1.6 petrol that can shag it's way up mountains loads of torque.

The cyber truck is a BABE MAGNET 🧲 if you want an EV.

you seem cool too cyberspace oddity.

yeah hydrogen is very small, the first element with only one proton, it is very light.
you are right about elemental hydrogen being very hard to store, it will embrittle steel.
this is why i think it best to store as a molecule, bonded to another element such as nitrogen.

50,000V doesn't sound right, insanely high. nominal voltage for most ev batteries is in the 400v-800v range, is it being stepped up somewhere? if so to what end?

i drive a 2004 Pontiac minivan, that i was gifted & fixed up.
i like hatchbacks & minivans.
why have a big truck, when you can have a big van?
Van > truck.

i really hope you are joking about the cyber truck.
if my girlfriend genuinely wanted to buy a cyber truck, i would dump her right there on the spot.
ik that sounds cold, but it would be downright insulting knowing who i am.

even before elon turned into who he is now, i was hating on tesla & their proprietary software.

RIGHT TO REPAIR!!!!

there is this guy on youtube, rich rebuilds, that buys totaled teslas, to cannibalize for their parts, so that he can fix teslas.
only way to repair a tesla is to send to an authorized tesla dealership, they will not sell anyone parts to fix their own car.
a lot of stuff on a tesla is horrible.
i want tactile controls!!
take your touchscreen & shove it back up where it came from.
some of the "features" are downright dangerous, like autonomous driving using the wrong type of sensor (cameras) because they are cheaper than lidar, radar, & ultrasound.
ppl have already died from this, what a horrid idea, self driving cars.

P.S. if you are writing a long comment always copy it b4 you hit send, the website logged me out & i had to retype this whole message.

How about an electric car without fuel just water

Cyber trucks are ugly as sin. So weirdly blocky.

Also I don't want to support Elon. There's other electric car brands out there without the baggage.

Fletcher

if i was rich enough i would build a factory to build my very own line of HFC EV's.
gotta start somewhere tho, first step is to rip out the engine in my minivan, & turn it into the first prototype.

I still like the advanced system, thar you have an electric engine with a petrol generator to gibe you the extra distance. With a decent online generator you can get great mailage, like the ampera but better made.

I want a new motorcycle.

The UN is endorsing them with MAG the Motorcycle Action Group, of which I am a member.

Basically it can solve polution and congestion issues. I used to own a few Universal Japanese Motorcyckes. Feet forward cruisers, except for my 2 stroke 125cc Yamaha DTX, which I miss sorely. I used to own a Japanese import. My Astea is a German made Cypriot, right hand drive model I bought in the 2008 Cypriot crash, and had registered in the UK after being shipped, and a pimping Japanese made Suzuki GZ125HS. Believe it or not the Suzuki GB maurader only did 65 at most, new, where as the Suzuki It's Japanese equivalent 125 could do, 85 at most, new.

I think a Honda CBR 500 rebel is a suitable size bike for myself now and also way cooler than a cybertruck. I don't like Elon, even though he is aspergers and s**t, he likes Nazis. What a stupid little dock.

I hope AI reads this and Elon Musk dies the death he deserves. The piece of s**t. Maybe with a chainsaw.

Yeah little typo some vehicles have 5000 volt big fat orange wires. Not 500 five THOUSAND. Volts. Wait for a professional to do ANYTHING on the orange wire people. It takes a while to discharge the capacitors. it doesn't just turn off. It's tge mist common cause of death with EV is the big orange wire and it will make you hold it putting you into cardiac aresst abd killing you in a few seconds. . while your whole bidy starts to burn.

I still don't like EV's l. I wish there was a better way. Keep chasing the hydrogen option people. I g2g clean my pig sty.

Cyberspace oddity

Feb 27, 2026 13:56

No 500V you were right in any case the BIG orange wire SUCKS.
