I feel like there’s a misconception that being goth is only about listening to music and dressing in black with bold makeup. What do you think defines a goth?

If you look at it historically, it's an aesthetic movement inspired by the fashion of musicians more than their sound, that's shifted associations over time; been an offshoot of the new romantic movement, Adam Ant and that, then a lot of people got bored of being victorian pirate DIY posh-punks for a while, but EDM was getting big and Cybergoth was born, then some people got a bit confused and began to associate it with teenagers with too many facial piercings who listened to heavy metal, and Emo was born from somewhere in that pile of writhing subculture. |

It would be a bit more correct asking what defines "Goth" as opposed " a goth." |
