So me, Walt, and Walt jr. watched that Pokemon movie from like the late 90s, Mewtwo strikes back.... And watching it made me realize just how f**king stupid the concept of Pokemon is.
Like everyone is distraught because the Pokemon and Pokemon clothes are beating the hell out of each other and one character actually says "Pokemon aren't meant to fight *like this*" like excuse me ma'am? The whole premise of the games and show is you collect animals and then dog fight with them for trinkets and clout, watching them set each other on fire and electrocute each other, but you draw the line at them biting and punching each other? Or is it that it's not ok when they choose to fight to the death of their own accord because "that's not in the name of good sport."
Mewtwo had a point when he referred to captured Pokemon as slaves; they don't have bodily autonomy, live in spherical cages with no freedom of movement, no ability to enjoy their surroundings, just isolated and trapped in a ball. And when they are allowed out of the cage, it's so they can be used to attack other pokemon or be attacked. Sounds like a wonderful life.
I dunno, I'm not the target demographic, but even as a kid when I was old enough to realize that Pokemon was just a franchise glorifying what is akin to dog or c**k fighting it kind of lost its appeal.
