Still researching all of this, but i think i have a rough idea of how it would all work. Going to convert my gasoline minivan to electric or just build a new car from the ground up.
Electromagnetic motors are the best, the only bottleneck is energy storage. Which is why hydrogen, a fuel 3 times more energy dense than gasoline is appealing, even more so with the fuel cell to turn it into electricity. If the hydrogen were to be burned, the engine would be subject to the 50% Carnot efficiency limit.
The issue with hydrogen is storing it, it is the first & lightest gas with a B.P of around -253°C. It is better to store its precursor Methane instead, cng is readily available at the right fuel station, it can also be made at home. Methane is steam reformed into hydrogen & co2. The co2 is an issue, there are many new research papers on different approaches to dealing with it.
Recently sequestration into urea fertilizer has caught my interest, it is much better if we can use co2 in the production of a product that is in demand. This is old & simple chemistry, but the way it is traditionally made makes it a carbon neutral process at best.
The production of Ammonia (Haber-Bosch) requires energy that is commonly provided by fossil fuels. If green ammonia is made using solar, other renewables, or if we can finally get it working, nuclear Fusion. It can be used to produce ammonium carbamate, which has to be processed into urea & separated from unconverted reactants which are fed back into the system. The final conversion into urea is not that efficient & there is research looking to improve on it.
This urea is used to grow plants which sequester more co2 into their biomass which should be collected into a methane digester, so that methane can be used instead of venting it & defeating the purpose of carbon sequestration, as methane is much worse as a greenhouse gas.

Jun 5, 2025 10:49 I like electric cars because electricity isn't as polutive and you have a gasoline back up if you run out of electricity.I've also seen cars run on garbage. |

Jun 6, 2025 10:50 I get what you're saying. If cars were always electrical or just that they only went to 30 miles per hour there would be a lot less accidents but it's too late for that now. |

Jun 6, 2025 18:08 If cars only went 30 miles per hour I'd shoot myself, no joke. Idk why people can't handle driving a vehicle, but I'd flip balls if the max I could go was 30. |
