Retirement

What is everyones ideal retirement plan? I dream about retirement allot even though its probably over 20 years away wheareas my girlfriend doesn't pay much attention. I have even started to think about increasing pension contributions through work even though its already an ok scheme but feel like I want to max it out as much as I can so I can retire earlier (theres also tax breaks here in the UK so it works a bit in favour). None of this stuff I would have cared about while getting drunk all the time in my 20 and early 30s

I think my plan would he a round the world cruise if I could afford it. Then maybe move somehere hotter, get a dog and go to the pub every day. Thats pretty much it, see a bit more of the world then relax into death like marlom brando at the end of the godfather.

Does anyone else have grander plans if they survive that long?

P.s. Jay I tried to ask you this in the chatroom but you ignored me AGAIN

Retirement is a fools game, why retire when you can live a life full of retirement, buy a boat, sail the seas, live the dream eat a dog

And i can't overstate this part

No retirement for me. I prefer to keep active. I have an eternity to sleep and rot all it wants when I'm dead.

As for stealing. Robbing your local drug deal is a fun moment. The fck they gonna do? Call the cops? Look stupid in front of their supplier because they weren't strapped or slacking on the spot?

As someone training to be a financial advisor I love this discussion.

For you Throne of *insert flavor of the week here* I would suggest looking into these things.

They are:

1 The percentage of interest-growth or market-investment your pension has.

2 How much, and to what limit your employer will match contributions.

3 - If they offer a (Roth and/or Traditional) 401k and how it compares to the pension (in terms of growth.)

When you know these things I can definitely give you some tailored guidance.

@ Wumatu robbing a drug dealer sounds fun as f**k lol

Given the economy and how America is my retirement plan is to die. I doubt I'd be able to save enough money to actually retire

They are:

1 The percentage of interest-growth or market-investment your pension has. - think its all market investment on a sort or global tracker

2 How much, and to what limit your employer will match contributions.- I put in 6% they put in and they put in 15%

3 - If they offer a (Roth and/or Traditional) 401k and how it compares to the pension (in terms of growth. - No idea what that is

401k is a low risk investment account basically

I thought 401k was warhammer?

Wunety,,or whatever that is, who says you don't keep busy when retired? You get to choose what you want to do it have to do when youre not working.
No retirement plan, no funds for retirement although I own my own home.
Doubtful I'll still be here as rhw retirement age keeps going up.
My neighbours out however retired in 1994, him and his wife are still going in their late 90s. Now that's a retirement to aspire to yet not many get. They moved in to their house in 1957 when they got married.

Retiring in the 90s was easy. Everything in the 90s was easy.

1 Good that's ideal for someone with a longer time horizon before retirement. Log onto your benefits portal and see if there's an option to reallocate where it's invested. 100 - your age = how risky you should invest. To add to what Neon Waifu said, a 401k can be a low risk investment and it usually is by default however it can be allocated aggresively too.

2 Nice! What do you do if you don't mind me asking?

3 Roth means taxed on deposit, Traditional means taxed on withdrawal. You wanna put into both in a way that minimizes what the IRS gets cause they're just gonna fund war crimes with that money. Basically try to evade taxes legally haha! Donate the money you save and save even more on your taxes hahaha. (side note: I'm not suicidal)

Best side note ever when not read within context. That one came out of left field for me. I read everything else, then bam...

Financial services

We have something called an ISA here its basically a tax free account for savings. You can put it in a cash isa which acts like a deposit account and your interest is tax free or a stocks and shares one where you invest, you can put a max of 20k in every financial year. I have some money in a stocks and shares one and invested in some global tracking ETFs. Hopefully that goes up gradually until I retire
