Peace and dignity for the dead/ dying

Peace and dignity for the dead/ dying

Georgia in the US has a scary unethical disturbing situation going on. A woman is legally dead Yet the state and hospital is using her body as a incubator for her unborn baby. I honestly don't think it matters if you are pro choice or pro life. This is inhumane and cruel especially to the family of the deceased woman. Humans deserve a peaceful passing with dignity. That woman and even her unborn child deserves a peaceful death. ...

Damn the world is crazier every day.

I'm often on the fence with the whole pro choice/pro life. Whilst this is a very extreme situation that poses alot of questions. The most important question to me is... what do you think the mother would've wanted? It's a horridly bleak situation that I'm only aware of due to this post so I can't speak like I know the details, but in a twisted situation like this maybe life can be saved through death, which is a strangely beautiful thing. I'm sure the mother wouldn't want her death to be the end for her child and that family might feel the same. It's fighting against nature which I do disagree with.

In Watchmen(2009) the superhero The Comedian solves crime by shooting ladies in the baby.

Something terrible happened to the mother but the child deserves a right to life. As you can tell I'm not pro choice, I'm pro life. I don't know the full details but that baby is still alive and everything should be done to make sure they get to live. In my opinion the mother is unknowingly a hero.

Hmmm I needed more facts, article says she's brain dead. It seems she's bee kept alive for 3mths already & there expecting to keep her alive for many more months, sounds like she was early into her pregnancy, when her blood clot to her brain happened, said there keeping her alive because of strict 6week abortion laws in the state.
To quote article I read. Someone challenging the law said this.

"Her family deserved the right to have decision-making power about her medical decisions,” Simpson said in a statement. “Instead, they have endured over 90 days of retraumatization, expensive medical costs, and the cruelty of being unable to resolve and move toward healing.”

be interested to know, how the actual family feels about it, though?
It sounds like a very shocking situation though.

When I was in primary school one of my friend father worked as a dock worker, he had a huge container fall on him, he was clinically brain dead, they had to decide to turn the life support machine off, including a pregnancy in this, & sounds like it was just a little over six weeks. It sounds like a disturbing situation to me, can't imagine how it feels for the family having to watch this. Who's taking care of this child once it's born?

*Include a pregnancy in this situation*

Was she married or did she have a partner I'm assuming yes or family, I can see why they would keep her going to save the baby especially if the baby was planned and much loved.

From what I can't the family doesn't want her to be on life's support. Her parents are old and they are already taking of her little boy. Letting someone go in peace is not the same as performing an abortion. I don't understand how this is even happening

Said somewhere she had a boyfriend, & another child I think. There's really not enough information.

Maybe the state should pay for the medical bills, & therapy for the family at least, especially if this isn't what the family would choose. Children cost lots of money, they have one less parent now, meaning one less income. You really don't know there situation, plus keeping a woman alive like an incubator, seems kind of demeaning to me. I really think there's not enough information. How far along was she to start with? what do the family want?

But then again flyxglittr considers herself a Christian, & she surprises by not living up to a stereotype.

So suprise me.

Yeah nah.

I am in the minority but I don't see why we're so gung-ho about killing a living being to save the dignity of a dead body. Using her uterus to house the fetus until it can be born is no different ethically than using organ donation. Using body parts of the dead to help the living keep living.

At some point the left/feminists need to do some self reflection.

What does the father want?

It sounds like the father isn't in the picture and the grandparents will be raising this second child? I could see if the father wanted to raise that child, and they were married (for legal reasons) or if he was legally the one to make decisions, but if that's not the case it's probably her parents that are next of kin and they should probably respect their wishes. Although, I could see this being a legal issue if the parents have no say in what happens.

I have a lot more questions. If her parents have legal say what happens to her if she wasn't pregnant, then they should follow their wishes, period. I wouldn't be surprised if no laws are written about this scenario. If it is a law that the state can do this, since she is pregnant then, sorry... that's how laws work.

Morally I feel differently about the whole thing, but these issues never cover everyone's morals.

Oh bro what if they dont like, let the baby give birth and then it pilots the mother like a gundam?

Can we have gundams now!?

Dr. Sus

May 22, 2025 20:45

You very much so construed the situation, maybe
.. Idk what legally dead entails, but she is brain dead. If that means they'd be able to pull the plug, then they should do that... because the other way you didn't describe the situation, is how horrific it actually is.

She's was only 9 weeks pregnant when this happened. They are citing ABORTION laws to get away with this. There's a good chance the kid could have major health complications. This is f**ked in my opinion. This feels like playing God.

it depends for me i’m of the mind if it was young enough to be taken out and survive on its own without mother then it’s a life,
or if it is no longer possible to terminate then it’s a life that needs to be lived(usually i’d say this but the mother being on life support while being legally dead and the family are saying just no, then no dont do it, don’t bring the baby into a world where people might resent how the baby was born
but if it’s a fetus that can’t survive if taken out of the womb then i’d say it’s not a life
i stand by what mama doctor jones says on the topic she’s an obgyn

I'm pretty sure they can terminate a fetus in its 3rd trimester. An I've met 30 year olds who couldn't survive without their mother.

Flyxglitter

May 23, 2025 07:48

This isn't even a about abortion, or politics. well I don't think it should be. But it should come down to medical science and equality of life..

No I don't like the idea of abortion, but I also understand that things aren't black and white. There are a lot of gray areas. It's like Dr sus said they are using abortion laws on a issue that has nothing to do with abortion.

Dr. Sus

May 23, 2025 09:58

It's ok, I get the racing brain too, plus, a strongly felt subject and yeah, words be flying.

Slothpenguin

May 23, 2025 11:18

I think the anti abortion rules are bulls**t. It would be bad enough in the UK where medical costs are free! Let's force a woman so have a kid she can't afford, or worse didn't want, like that kid is going to have a great life being told I didn't want you.
Abortion should never become a contraception but pregnancy shouldnt become a punishment.

Do we have any information regarding the health of the unborn baby? How far along the unborn baby is? The chances of the unborn baby having severe health complications? What the quality of life will be like? What resources the family has to care for the unborn baby should there be severe health issues? The availability of care varies widely depending on the financial situation of the family, the state one lives in, etc. I don't think this is such a black and white topic.

I think my mother had me because her family were backwards Christian. She was 20 when she had me, she was emotionally immature, she had supports in place to start with, when she left my dad, but things turn to s**t very quickly, when her & my supports died. & Circumstances got worse with mental health issues, financial issues etc... she didn't seem like she enjoyed being a parent, & I wish she aborted me, half the time. Not that I knew what it was, but non-existence was wished for.

Midnight Ruffles

May 23, 2025 13:00

I think my point is, are you bringing a child in this world for some stupid belief, or because you're prepared, financial & mature enough to raise a child. Why bring a kid into a miserable situation, that's cruel in it self imo.

Mercurius Mesmerize

May 23, 2025 16:00

Life on earth is a miserable existence even if people wanted the child and could afford it.

Dr. Sus

May 23, 2025 20:10

The baby wad 9 weeks, plus 3 months along from the time of the article I read.

Dr. Sus

May 23, 2025 20:13

And there is a chance for severe complications, they didn't say hoe much of a chance, but listed things like, blindness, and never being able to walk. Which, ik aren't life threatening severe, but cmon, if there's even a 25 percent chance this child won't come out a fully healthy baby, then maybe don't do all this? And Idk how common this type of thing is, medically, but it doesn't sound common and I imagine there could be much worse effects.

Eoten

May 23, 2025 20:24

It is about politics, which is why you're even hearing about such an extreme case in the first place. If one side didn't feel it could push their narrative against the other, you wouldn't hear of 99% of the s**t out there from either side.

WaveFormReactor

May 23, 2025 20:47

Regardless of why we're hearing about it, it's a real issue. Politics aside, It's easy to say ending the pregnancy is wrong, and that's that, but there are very real consequences to that decision. Once the baby is born, then what? It's a question that needs to be asked. Not everyone or every family has the resources to care for a severely disabled child. Not every state has a well-funded safety net for that situation. Whether or not one agrees with how the situation arose, it's there.
