Neons got it. Plus dude, alt chick's are wack (just my experience, haven't dated a decent one yet, 0 for 4). Pretty much 99 percent people of all people these days are wack, no matter what box you stick em in. Frankly, the people I can't stand the most would probably consider themselves alternative. There are exceptions to the wackness of course. I have met a few cool people on here, but the digging to do it is difficult my friend. The best thing to do, imo, is just s**t post on the forum, and find the people you like that way. That's what's worked for me.

I joined a few months ago out of curiosity, but eh...I don't expect to meet anyone to have a relationship with here. I have had a few good chats through my inbox with some potential friends, though. Honestly, a lot of guys who message me come off as "try hards" which isn't very appealing to me. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I'd like to pose a question as well. I've been noticing for years, I'll state my name, what I like to do, and at the top of that list is making music. I get written off as a phony all the time, but irl and online. But... I actually do make music... of like, a s**t ton of genres. I am an actual musician/DJ. So, would that be something you see as being "try hard"?... because IL a lot of guys front about it. s**t... I've even seen some women front about it.

There's another problem I'd like to discuss too, but let's stick with this for now.

By "try-hard," I mean the messages I get sound like they played too many Kingdom Hearts or similar video games and picked and chose some lines from the villains to sound cool. They don't seem like they're acting like themselves, it feels like they're acting like what they *think* I like. I should say not *all* the messages I've gotten from guys here are like that, but certainly enough.

To your next question: Personally, no. If someone says they enjoy something (like making music), I'm not going to overanalyze it. The only way I'd call someone in this scenario a phony is if I actually got to know them and realized they didn't actually know anything about making music. However, I would have to be interested in someone to want to hang out with them.

I tend to agree with the other comments on here.
Many people in general have gotten really shallow (any "dating site" is like that I am afraid)
Most women-no matter their appearance or musical tastes are crazy 🤣 It's in our DNA I believe.
There are decent people out there and yes, it's frustrating AF to find them.

Ok, I could both of those things happening often. I think I may have a bit of thee opposite problem, like, I'm so me, right out the gate that it can put people off. I've tried to ease that up over the years, because it doesn't translate well via text, in person, it's fine, but text, it doesn't carry.

As far as the music things concerned, I've had people, listening to my music... in person, and flat out say, "I can't believe you do production." Or that they only half think it's actually mine. When we were teenagers, and recording something decent wasn't nearly as easy as today, people flat out called me a liar to my face. I guess, in writing this, I've realized I should take it as a compliment. I've had lady friends tell me that guys will often use that kinda thing to look cool, but don't know s**t.

The other thing I wanted to bring up, is how often, as a dude, I'm expected to come up with the most enthralling conversation ever, right out the gate, with almost nothing to go off of, and someone not really interacting back, not asking questions etc. I'm farely adept at talking about just about anything, there's artform to that, ask questions, get curious, pose theories, ideas or concepts, etc. I'm guessing they just decided they weren't interested right away, but still answered the message?... If that's the case, I'd rather be left on read 🤣.

And for a lot of thee altscene fellas out there, take the f**kin hint, lol. Of course, most of them won't be reading this.

You dudes have it pretty rough, I think we can all attest to that. There's give and take and take to this.
Flat out, thinking of things to say to a stranger is hard. Small talk is a good place to start and it's super crappy if the person on the other end is not engaging-even a little.
The question remains: if you're on a site as such, why not engage with people?
This forum is pretty cool, I will say that.

Totally though, just don't respond if you're not interested. It's discouraging to the sender to reply with zero effort.

@Sus: I think it's quite silly to argue with a person as to what their interests are or aren't, which is why I don't question people when they tell me what their interests are. I'm sorry people question yours, but if they're going to do that, they're probably not worth knowing.

For me, I don't expect anything groundbreaking in my inbox. However, when I *do* engage with those who send simplistic messages like "hi" or "hey," I often find myself putting in all the effort in having a decent conversation while the guy continues to give simple answers. That's why I tend not to answer those types of messages. I *am* more likely to answer messages from those who make an effort to look at my profile and use something in it as a conversation starter. But I understand that some here (and other dating sites) don't give much to start on.

I dont ever want to come off as try hard or creepy. I do need advice because honestly i join sites like this cuz im too nervous to meet women in person and i dont want to keep setting myself up for failure
