a solar cooker would be really nice to have in the apocalypse, use it to clean water by boiling it or distilling it, without need for a wood fire. smoke draws ppl to your location.

there is not a lot of neighborhood out where my land is in NM, there are only 2 houses near my land the rest is just empty.
also since it is getting hotter now because of the greenhouse effect/global warming, even less ppl will want to live out in the desert.
meanwhile ill be out there using the sun & environment to my advantage.

another use for a solar cooker, is making charcoal.
puts less co2 into the atmosphere.
always hated how you have to burn wood to get your pyrolysis chamber hot.

That is a good idea for the apocalypse. Nice. I don't usually like talking money, but how much does one of those run?

I've always wondered what people will do in the desert if the power grid goes down, mostly in the sense of surviving the heat. You have any ideas? There's a chance I might be moving to the high desert, and I'm guessing that's quite different to where you live, but still desolate and gets hot, on top of cold too.

It's probably all at once. I invited trouble to my home and since then my life took unexpected turn. I will look into it. Also it works.
