This makes me feel very nostalgic. The crow came first or lost boys... which did i see first ha.
Otherwise i was born in 82 so hard to know what the score was at that age.

Ah! I love The Crow, my mother practically religiously watched it with me when I was younger.

The 80s was a golden age for film imo. Cheesy films like back to the future,Ghostbusters breakfast club, top Gunn ,coming to America etc. Then quality action ones like the terminator and rambo then thrillers like wall street.

I'm gona plug for either the goonies or indiana Jones though as my picks.

The crow was 94 so not sure you can have that one I'm afraid.

The Brat Pack films were great. I know Thrones said Breakfast club but also St Elmos Fire, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Fast times at Ridgemont High etc.
Ferris Bueller, Weird Science, Planes Trains and Automobiles, European Vacation, Airplane 1 and 2 as well as the lesser known Top Secret.
So many good comedies.
All 3 Back to the futures and the first 3 Indiana Jones films(again, as Thrones mentioned).

Return of the Jedi is probably my personal favourite because I'm a huge Star Wars mark.
But there's such a big list of movies I'd recommend.

“Don't screw around with me Maverick. You're a hell of an instinctive pilot. Maybe too good. I'd like to bust your butt but I can't. I got another problem here. I gotta send somebody from this squadron to Miramar. I gotta do something here, I still can't believe it. I gotta give you your dream shot! I'm gonna send you up against the best. You two characters.... are going to Top Gun.”

“But if you screw up just this much, you’ll be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog shït outta Hong Kong!”

I just watched Blade Runner the other night and was truly underwhelmed. I really don’t think a sequel was called for there.

No, I didn’t think so either...

Not sure I can pin one down, but big, goonies, weird science, gremlins, and lost boys were pretty intergral parts of my childhood

Some popular horror movies that came out at the time like Friday the 13th, Gremlins, Blade Runner... My favorite one that gives me weird nostalgic good feelings is The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. I really liked that movie, I wish they made another one...

The Neverending Story.
The Toy. The Three Amigos.
European Vacation, yeah haha, I watched that over and over again; I love Chevy Chase
What's great about the 80's and even moreso the 70's is that the actors and comedians were not there for their model looks;
shows like "Friends" changed that. There was more of a variety of looks in the older productions-"Taxi" best example.
The 80's really are great and to think...it was a recession
BladeRunner, of course

Three Amigos was so funny to me when I was in like 6th grade, but I went back and watched it a few years ago and man, it got a lot less funny in the intervening years. Made me sad to realize my sense of humor could no longer accommodate Three Amigos. 😢

I don't think I've seen it since a young age and I remember thinking it was hilarious. So like you, I'd like to see it again to find out if it's still 'hilarious' Probably not.

Ferris Bueller, I could never understand the mass appeal to this one. A while back an artist got attention for recreating his bedroom and making it 'art'. This was odd because set dressers originally made that, so I don't 'get it'. I noticed that the new version did not have the same Boy Scout prop though. Maybe it was a 'nod' to set dressers, to appreciate it as art>?

I'd have to say Evil dead, Gremlins, Back to future to name a few. 80's was a glorious time for movies!

John Candy movies like Planes, Trains & Automobiles and Uncle Buck. For horror, The Evil Dead and The Thing. I also like animated movies like The Land Before Time and The Brave Little Toaster.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles absolutely holds up today, definitely one of my favorite comedies ever.

I’ll add Platoon to the list as an 80’s war movie that still holds up in every way, still a top 5 war film of all-time. The effects are impressive even today, but the story is just so gripping.

Mystic_Moon2

Mar 25, 2020 01:32

Dirty Dancing, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures, Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink, and Risky Business are also really good in my opinion

The 80's? Ah yes, back when movies were good. Not overly long for the sake of it, no wasted scenes, fleshed out balanced characters. Probably 90% of them were good, even when they were bad.

Mar 24, 2021 01:44

Nineteen Eighty-Four, Road Warrior/Mad Max 2, Aliens, The Thing, the first 2 Hellraisers, Jacob's Ladder, the Terry Gilliam films, David Lynch's Dune, The Blood of Heroes, The Princess Bride, Highlander, Dangerous Liaisons, The Name of The Rose, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Gandahar/the Light Years... (I originally included Nightbreed and Flatliners-- but they were released in 1990...)

Three Amigos: "We could take a walk and you could kiss me on the veranda..." "... the lips would be fine..."

If 90's movies were included though I would list the first live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Secret Of The Ooze. The third movies of both trilogy's were never good to be in my opinion.

I remember laserdisk well. Amusing as f**k seeing a cd the size of a record.

Why has nobody mentioned The 'Burbs!!

No Photo

Mar 24, 2021 13:14

The ‘Burbs is a classic. Very weird movie though, strikes me as basically the same premise as Rear Window. It actually kind of bothers me that the ridiculous hypotheses of the nosy neighbors in both films were vindicated in the end, it makes no sense.

Mar 24, 2021 14:36

As a kid, the Burbs was my first exposure to disposing of bodies on the sly.

BadFish

Mar 24, 2021 14:49

Well it would have been a boring film if they went through all the nosey neighbour antics and it turned out the neighbours were up to nothing

Mar 24, 2021 16:42

Return of the living dead.Great characters, soundtrack and i like the dark comedy about it.I know typical but it's my 2nd fav movie of all time.

Mar 24, 2021 16:55

Badfish, I still think it could’ve been funny and interesting if it turned out the nosy neighbors were just driving themselves insane with their curiosity. Either way, it’s not exactly a “thinker” of a movie anyway, so I guess my critique is really primarily for Rear Window.

BadFish

Mar 24, 2021 17:29

I haven't seen Rear Window but I'm guessing being Hitchc**k it wasn't as light hearted as The Burbs

Mar 24, 2021 18:10

No, not exactly. Still worth a watch though.

emperorroberto

Mar 25, 2021 05:42

I liked rear window,as for the burbs the ending ruined it for me.I thought if they had left it to where they were just crazy and jumping to conclusions about the creepy neighbors that would've been a better ending.

emperorroberto

Mar 25, 2021 05:57

Well someone already said what i just said but w the burbs i don't think the ending i said should've happened would've made the movie boring as you would have all their insane spying still interesting and comedic.
