I'm a life long metal fan and am also a huge fan of Halloween and dark art culture. H.P. Lovecraft, Stephen King, even Poe are all favorites. I'll admit that I'm fascinated by some of the darker aspects of human nature as well - I have had a chance to see some of it first hand as a lawyer.
