About me: Proud of my working class roots. University educated, corporate job. 100% punk. Dry sense of humour.
Aesthetic: Old skool ska skinhead punk usually variations of gingham button-down shirts, t-shirts, cropped hair and slim rolled up 501 jeans, black or cherry red docs. That is the uniform. I do have a tattoo of a military variety that I will soon cover up. At work, I may just put on a tailored jacket to blend in. I will be your Shaun and you can be my Smell.
My musical tastes are not limited to the genre I grew up with. I listen to most except mainstream top 40. I get nostalgic with music from The Jam, The Clash, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Fall, Bauhaus, Joy Division. Jesus & Mary Chain, the Sisters of Mercy, The Smiths. Anything from the Thatcher era. In the 90's, I enjoyed the music from Flying Nun, 4AD, Creation, Rough Trade and Mute Records. These days, I am open but lean towards industrial, dark wave, electronica. One's taste in music is surprisingly indicative of how much we'd get along.
Some films and filmmakers I enjoy: A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Last Lovers Left Alive, This is England, Beat Takeshi, Akira Kurosawa, Sofia Coppola. I am open to world cinema. Sub-titles don't faze me...I can read and have the attention span.
My ideal partner: One who is honest with themselves, comfortable in their skin, warts and all. Maybe scarred. Because scarring means one has healed. One who can recognise that time is finite. I imagine these are not lofty ideals.
I am not restricting myself to distance. Travel is easy these days - and money can be earned. The opposite is true in finding one's mate. I have to emphasise that Sydney can be breathtaking if one is open to moving here. Of course I am biased. I enjoy the hustle and bustle of living within a big city rather than suburbia. I am within walking distance to my work, beautiful parks and the sea. The only catch here is there is too much sunlight which could be detrimental to your health. Having stated this, I myself can pack up and go (but not at the drop of a hat). I may be dragged to the theatre and exhibitions and dress appropriately if required, though I prefer the live scene, a quiet corner in the pub, maybe scouring the Sunday market for obscure records.
Caveat: I was once a husband and father. I have a young daughter that I adore but unfortunately do not live with me. I ask that my 'potential partner' take this into account. I am taking responsibility in fixing this. This is important to me.
