*I try to be polite and don't just message people out the blue uninvited (I assume most women's inboxes are chock full of random DMs as it is). I will send you a friend request and, if you accept, take it that it means you've looked at my profile, would like to chat, and it is ok to send you a message. Although, if you want to message me, just go ahead*
I'm a half-American Scot.
I'm a musician who has played in bands for years (although my career and moving away from my home town has got in the way of that the last few years). I generally sing in bands but can play guitar, bass, and drums, too. My music taste is very broad and eclectic and am open-minded to essentially all genres (although I have a penchant for the alternative, artsy, and avant-garde and so am a MEGA post-punk and goth rock fan).
I am a bit of an eccentric. My dress sense is quite flamboyant, but not overly so. I collect books (I am very nerdy and love to learn about everything I can and my house is a veritable library of books and academic journals) and cuddly penguin toys. I am a big fan of all your general geek pastimes and interests, too. I also love culture; art, literature, poetry, theatre, opera etc. I am very passionate and intense; not in an overbearing way or anything, but in the sense of having a very rich inner world of ideas and emotions.
I was a total wild child in my younger days, very hedonistic, but am much more settled and career and personal growth-oriented now. However, my arm is easy to twist and I like to let my hair down and have fun and retain a free-spirited and liberal outlook on life and a bit of a wild streak. I also have a lively sense of humour and comedy is very, very important to me (I love sitcoms, stand-ups, and sketch shows and also have done little bits of comedy here and there with friends just for our own consumption) so I think I balance focused and grounded with playful and fun quite well.
Currently doing a doctorate in social policy, with a specialism on poverty. I study it because I am an idealist who wants to make the world a better place. I would like to think I have the nurturing, warm nature someone would associate with someone with such a calling in life. I also teach politics at my university. I am also very interested in the social sciences and humanities more generally.
Looking to date, and hopefully/ideally a relationship, but I don't want to force anything, either. Wild, intense, soul-nourishing, scandalously passionate love at first sight would be delightful, obviously, but I believe in chatting, getting to know someone, and letting things take their own course. If nothing more than friendship or something more casual and short-term develops, that's cool, too. I am open to people and experiences.
