Some might label me weird or strange, others might label me unique or special, but I'm just a person who likes to stay true to his own values and not follow what others do or say. Labels are given by others because being 'different' is far less scary to them if they can file it away in a corner of their minds under a category that they feel comfortable with, (rather like a doctor, sectioning someone to a psychiatric facility).
I was, and still am, very much in tune with the ideology of the early anarcho - punk movement, spearheaded by CRASS. Bands of a similar breed today seem less original in their thought process and tend to just follow a tired old mantra of what they think is expected. This has pushed me more towards 'folk' music as a voice for social commentary and protest. I also enjoy ambient, experimental, dark wave and neoclassical which helps my mind to explore deeper meaning to the evidence provided by my eyes.
I have a distinctive image, but would not want to classify it, ('Punks', 'Goths', 'Emos', 'Metalheads'?! Don't kid yourself, there's nothing at all alternative in wanting to belong to a group of people who all look the same, and follow the same things, you're just perpetuating a stereotype and it makes you a 'follower').
I am a Vegan and strongly believe in 'animal rights'. Although I am not particularly 'preachy' about this to others, I do detest so called animal lovers talking about their pet dogs as their 'babies' or about how they enjoy horse riding etc. (As if animals exist solely for the purpose of domestication and to indulge our selfish needs).
Interested in history/ archaeology and how ancient sites and old abandoned buildings, etc, still carry some resonance of the people who once frequented them. I am an atheist, and not particularly spiritual in any way, but do believe that after we die, a kind of echo of our memories lives on in the things and places that were important to us.
I fully realise that this will alienate me from 99% of the rest of society, (including nearly everyone who uses this site), but I have a deep hatred of smart phones. I find myself constantly appalled at how everyone seems to be completely enslaved by them. It is an insidious addiction, which creates a dependency on others, (therefore weakening any free thinking individuality). Smart phones are also making people more self obsessed and narcissistic, because they can’t let a minute pass without checking if someone ‘likes’ or wants them, (and that’s when they’re not too busy taking ‘selfies’ of themselves). I have never owned a smart phone and never will.
Love visiting remote and secret places, mountains, rivers, woods, wild camping etc. (Once worked as a Warden at one of the most remote backpacker hostels in Britain - nearest road was a two and a half mile hike over mountain track and there was no electricity). Also interested in ecology, natural history, environmental issues, foraging for wild food and self sustainability.
I have an uncomplicated history, with no ex wives or children, which has kept me feeling, acting, (and somehow looking) much younger than my actual age.
Looking for a like minded person to enjoy special times and places with.
