ITS ONE THING TO LOOK ALTERNATIVE AND ANOTHER TO LIVE IT
Are there any switched on, alternative, intellectual, brave, travelling, free thinking people on here, or is it all just sheeple? I live off grid on a boat and I have for the past 23 years, (aside six months on the Isle of Mull and a couple of years nursing on the south coast in Eastbourne). Now I actually view living in a house a kin to living in an open prison. I don't wish to offend anyone by saying that, it's just houses don't move and you have to work pretty much flat out for the best years of your life just to pay them off, (unless you get housing benefit) and their upkeep is very pricey too, gas, electric, council tax etc etc. Naturally once you have paid for your static brick dwelling you can sell it to pay for your elderly care costs. So no, a house is so not my cup of tea. On the boat I have warmth, comfort, freedom of movement, choice of town, countryside or city, an amazing transient community of the best people, low bills bringing the ability to travel abroad more often and so much more that to sit here writing the benefits of boat life would probably fill a small book, honestly, you should see my garden, all 5000 miles of it.
To write that I live on a boat is actually not that true to be fair. I mean I do own a boat, and I eat , sleep, wash, travel and take shelter on my boat, this much is true, but I really live anywhere life finds me, and often I am not about the boat at all doing just that, walking in the hills or down wooded river banks, visiting another country or family and friends. So dear single heart reader, just because being stuck with a house is seen as the normal option, it doesn't make it necessarily the best option in my opinion. Hark at me defending my life style on a dating app, but to be fare It's really quite surprising just how self deluded some folk can be, and how many there are who have never so much as set foot on a narrow boat that seemingly know all about how bad living on one is. How they are cold in winter, or cramped, claustrophobic, dirty. How if you walk on the canal at night you will definitely be slaughtered or worse. They know it all and yet still they have experienced nothing, but worry not, for there is at least some solace to be taken here, for these will be the very same people who will die early on in the zombie uprising, or a two week power cut, whichever is more likely. for these people know nothing and are actually quiet frightened by education and facts, and in this grim, self obsessed reality that does not present itself to them, they, by their own doing, are actually missing out on so much wonder, love, hidden treasure and life itself. They are in all actuality already the walking dead, neatly boxed in their prisons watching others have lives on their huge TV sets while their own life slips by them outside the walls they work so hard to pay for.. Sooooo......swiftly moving on. If you are not a mindless zombie and feel as I do that a life spent in the pursuit of love, togetherness, adventure and happiness is better than a life spent in the pursuit of money, a big house, flash cars, bigger TV's and just stuff in general, come and say hello. If we get on famously come on a date with me, and if we really like each other come on a few more, then perhaps even join me, just think, how amazing would it be to share this magical life in love together, with someone who sees the bigger picture and chooses to live life also? Come on, it would be like feeling invincible or some such, awesomeness personified.
If it helps you to decide wether or not to drop me a mssage you should know that the traveling boat community, (of which there are now literally thousands) are just about the happiest folk you'll meet in the UK, and the friendliest, being one of them I am also happy to just count you as a friend. I say "just" add you as a friend, but in reality all my friends have lasted, yet my lovers have not, but that's another story and one again you should not tell yourself you know before hearing it.
I think that should have given you a fare and honest picture of a tiny part of who I am at this moment in time. I would say we would have to meet in person before I could make any choices either way about you, but that again is just my opinion.
As a disclaimer to that, I hold the ability to change any or indeed all my opinions at any given moment and swap them for better ones if, as and when they present themselves to me (we all do) which is why I find this whole write about yourselves bit most odd and a bit of a waste of time, and again I say we will never have a good understanding of one another until we meet in person. I would be sorry to have wasted your time with such a long self write up, but you chose to read it and life's to short for regrets, besides I've rather enjoyed it, it was quite cathartic. Love, honesty and happiness is the order of the day and I will leave that at that.
