Also - before I dive in, my current status is Separated, but there's no option for that...just an FYI. It's amicable. She's a lovely woman, but we decided to part ways. We're still friends...no animosity, drama, or craziness - just decided to call it a day. Sometimes you discover you're not meant to be together forever and it's best to get out before any more water passes under the bridge.
Finally, and I want to be clear about this, I see a lot of people here who want to find a lifelong soulmate with whom they can spend the rest of their lives. I can appreciate that. It's a fine thing to want. but I'm not that guy - at least not right now. I'm looking for friendship above all else. If it turns into something more, that's great - but I'd be just as happy if I make some great friends. Right now I want something that's low pressure, low commitment.
Oh - one more thing. I'm Filipino-Irish, but there's no check box for that. If you've got a thing about avoiding Filipino-Irish dudes I thought you had a right to know.
Okay, now that that's out of the way...
I'm a graphic designer in the Cincinnati area; I've been working professionally in the field for 18 years...currently employed at a printing business and as a freelance book designer and game designer for the tabletop gaming industry. I realize that to some that sounds like I'm an overgrown man-child, but it really is a thing I do. I earn money designing books for roleplaying games, doing the illustrations, and even some game design work. I'd love to do it full-time but right now it's supplemental income.
I'm creative and artistic. I don't say that to sound interesting (i.e. - C'MON WHO DOESN'T WANT TO DATE AN ARTIST), I say that because...well crap, I don't know how to say it without sounding like a pretentious dork. I like to make things. I draw and work on book designs. I write. I blog and produce podcasts. So on the one hand, I'm never bored - I have an endless capacity to entertain myself. On the other hand, on the rare occasion where I have nothing to do I can be fidgety and restless. It's why I always have a bag with several books and pads of paper with me. I'm also pretty good at teaching myself things. Well, some things. (Still haven't managed to work out guitars...but I think I just lack the dexterity for it.)
I have a crude sense of humor - not going to lie. Some people find that charming, some find it a pain in the arse. I don't make poop jokes to be disarming, it's because I have the sensibilities of a twelve-year-old. I'm not ashamed of that. But you might be. Just sayin'.
I'm a total film buff. I like to watch horror films and Japanese films in particular - especially Chambara (samurai period dramas) and Yakuza-eiga flicks. I like David Cronenberg, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Peckinpah, Terence Malick, Andrei Tarkovsky, Wim Wenders, Herzog....I mean okay, I could go on and on. And weird films. The weirder the better. No, weirder than what you're currently picturing. For serious.
I don't watch a lot of television. I'm a cord-cutter, so I don't know what's on half the time. I usually don't find out about a television program until it's been on for two or three years. I like old British television: the 60's Avengers series (boy howdy did I have a crush on Diana Rigg growing up!) and classic Doctor Who are favorites. Twilight Zone is probably my favorite television program ever, ever, ever.
I read a lot. I'll say it: I read stuff many would dismiss as 'total crap'. I read mostly pulpy fantasy and New Wave sci-fi novels from the 70's and classic weird fiction. Stuff like Michael Moorc**k, Robert E. Howard, Lovecraft, John Brunner, etc. I like China Mieville, Ian Banks, Frank Herbert, Richard K. Morgan, Jack Vance, David Drake. I also read quite a bit of historical stuff, particularly books about WWII or ancient history.
I have a couple of tattoos (FYI) - probably will get one or two more before I call it quits. Some people like tattoos, some people find them repellent. I'm not covered, but they're plainly visible.
I enjoy a wide variety of music - although my loves are punk and metal. I bounced around the local punk scene for most of my formative years, so it's who I am. I grew up listening to Black Flag, the Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, etc. Metal came a bit later - currently I'm obsessed with Doom Metal and Black Metal acts like Behemoth, High on Fire, Acrimony, etc. Which isn't to say it's all loud, all the time. I also quite enjoy classical (Philip Glass and Beethoven being my favorites), jazz (Miles Davis, Charlie Parker), and even a little country (Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr.). I'm a big consumer of culture - when I like something, I'm passionate about it. Right now I'm on a big Nick Drake and Sia kick.
Sports? Not a fan, but I like attending. Maybe even watching if the company is good.
What do I want in a partner? Looking for an artistic, creative woman - a voracious reader, a lover of film, someone who can equally appreciate fine art and trash culture. Someone who can appreciate a dirty joke. Punk / metalheads with tattoos and / or piercings a plus (but not necessary!). Looking for someone a bit younger or the young at heart - someone who enjoys life and discovering new things. Also a woman who wants to share their interests with me! I'm nothing if not curious and really enjoy seeing others live their passions to the fullest.
