My profile pic is my long-time companion Golly (short for Golgotha). I thought about using actual pictures of myself, but thought better of it. She's probably got another 10 or more years left, so I should probably be open about it. Also, I'm not interested in subjecting myself to whatever judgments come from that first impression.
I am a professional nerd. I perform research and write summaries of my findings pretty much all the time. I'm sure that I could have a better job, but I like the flexibility in my schedule and I enjoy having my mind challenged. In my spare time I like to pretend I am an artisan metalworker, but really I like to hit things with a hammer or bend things with pliers until they are functional or interesting. I can make simple tools, axes, swords, knives, and jewelry, but I can't make horse shoes or house tools. I used to be a musician but I was not very good at it and my ambitions died of a broken heart. I haven't really tried to create anything soft since, but I am ok with that. I've had to enter a world plagued with responsibilities and obligations, and I found a corner to hide there, so I'm surprisingly ok with my life being resigned to a job dependent on wild speculation and typing skills. At least what I get done is respected by my coworkers and therefore I get extra challenges and the chance to make my own hours as long as my tasks are completed on time. It may not sound like much, but there is something incredibly refreshing about having the choice of poking the snooze button until noon without someone being upset.
I've noticed that it seems obligatory for me to state I love/have tattoos and/or piercings, I like music of some type and metal of some variety. It is apparently optional for me to declare myself emo, so I will take a pass on that for the moment. There are actual dangerous parts to my job, so I have probably created a lot of animosity, but I don't think that anyone actually cares too much. I like to tease people about politics, science/nature, and amateur anthropology/philosophy. I love my animals, and I'm glad there was a great snake escape without people being hurt, because that is a great display and he doesn't want to draw attention to the house. Most of my pets are somewhere on the eccentric range, but at least I don't have lots of cats.
Feel free to ask. I have a wide assortment of interests and experiences, and am looking to expand those in whatever manner you would like to believe. I will say this about my choices in music- I have a love of strong lyrics, regardless of genre, and probably half of what I listen to regularly falls under that penumbra, the rest is mood- , moment- , and fascination- driven. I really do listen to just about everything, but I certainly have my preferences.
