There is none greater than the uniquely wonderful Kat Bjelland of Minneapolis. She formed Babes In Toyland when the 4th Wave Of Feminism was erupting out of Olympia, so they caught that wave along with the same one that bands like L7, The Lunchicks & The Melvins were riding on.
Great stuff. No one riffs a guitar like she does. Like Hendrix, she gives voice to her guitar - and like Dax Riggs of Acid Bath, her voice shifts gears from screeching balls out to little girl coos that can sooth your soul. Except Babes In Toyland is about movement & noise. Silence is death. They don't sit still. Lori's drumming is inspirational, adds heaviness yet can be tribal like Sleater-Kinney or Sepultura, but without the double kick. None of that. More basic. The song structures are non conventional & they go with the power trio formula, so Maureen's bass holds all of that down & drives it.
The Babes busted up a long time ago, but got back together in the 2000's after settling their personal business with each other. Today, Kat's health is not good & she needs emergency medical help & financial assistance. Conduct an online search with a non-scummy search engine such as the British Mojeek, or DuckDuckGo so you can find a way to help her. Long Live Katherine Lynne Bjelland.
This band is revolutionary due in no small part to Kat. She's permanently retired now due to her health. Help her if you can. This band & her work will stand the test of time because it already does.
